NHL: Phoenix 4, Chicago 2

GLENDALE, Ariz., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Mikael Tellqvist made 25 saves Thursday and the Phoenix Coyotes fought off a late comeback to defeat Chicago 4-2.

Phoenix won its third straight game by building a 3-0 lead and then holding on when Chicago's Cam Barker and Kris Versteeg made it close in the third period.

Radim Vrbata had a goal and an assist for the Coyotes, who are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.

Martin Hanzal and Craig Weller scored first-period goals for Phoenix and Vrbata added a power-play goal 7:45 into the third.

The Blackhawks closed within one when Versteeg scored the first goal of his NHL career with 1:27 to play. Fredrik Sjostrom clinched the victory when he scored into an empty net with 59 seconds to go.

Chicago has dropped its last three after a four-game winning streak.
