ATLANTA, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A power-play goal by Cory Stillman with 3:23 remaining Friday gave the Carolina Hurricanes a 4-3 victory over Atlanta.
The Thrashers fell five points behind Carolina in the battle for the Southeast Division lead.

Stillman, positioned just left of the crease, one-timed a pass from Ray Whitney over goaltender Kari Lehtonen. The score came with Robert Holik serving a penalty for delay of game.
Eric Staal had a goal and two assists in helping Carolina end a three-game losing streak. Casey Borer scored his first NHL goal in his second game in the league.
The Hurricanes rallied from a 2-0 deficit and tied the game with 3:25 left in the second on a 55-foot slapshot by Borer.
