SOUTHAVEN, Miss., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Chris Warren scored 17 points Friday and Eniel Polynice just missed a triple-double to lead Mississippi to a 78-58 win over Southern Mississippi.
The 24th-ranked Rebels improved to 12-0, the best start to a season in school history. Mississippi put together 11-0 starts in 1936 and 2000.
Polynice scored 14 points, had 13 rebounds and dished out nine assists. Dwayne Curtis added 15 points and David Huertas had 12.
Southern Mississippi (8-5) was led by 23 from R.L. Horton.
The Golden Eagles took a 24-16 lead thanks to a 12-2 run, but the Rebels came back with 13 consecutive points and broke the game open in the second half. Mississippi's lead was only two with 8:32 remaining, but the Rebels finished the game on a 22-4 run.
