NHL: Detroit 5, St. Louis 0

ST. LOUIS, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Chris Osgood recorded his second shutout this season Wednesday, making 20 saves in Detroit's 5-0 blanking of St. Louis.

Valtteri Filppula scored twice for the first multi-goal game of his career.

Earlier in the day, the Red Wings announced they had extended Nicklas Lidstrom's contract through the 2009-2010 season.

Lidstrom, the highest scoring defenseman in franchise history who has spent all of his 16-year career with the Red Wings, had a goal and an assist.

Detroit also got a goal and an two assists from Brian Rafalski.

Osgood's other shutout this season also came against St. Louis Nov. 21. He has 45 shutouts in his career.

Manny Legace gave up four goals on 16 shots and was replaced during the second period by Hannu Toivonen.
