NHL: Buffalo 3, Chicago 1

BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Drew Stafford scored the go-ahead goal in the second period Saturday in the Buffalo Sabres' 3-1 victory over Chicago.

Stafford's seventh goal of the season at 10:18 of the second broke a 1-1 tie and put Buffalo in front for good.

Thomas Vanek (power play) and Jason Pominville (empty net) also scored, Derek Roy had two assists, and Ryan Miller stopped 26 of 27 shots for the Sabres -- who have won three in a row and are unbeaten in their last four meetings against the Blackhawks.

Chicago's only goal came from Patrick Kane in the first.

Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 20 shots of 22 shots for the Blackhawks, who have dropped five of six.

In a penalty-filled contest, Chicago went 0 for 7 on the power play, while Buffalo was 1 for 5.
