NHL: Montreal 4, Boston 2

BOSTON, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Christopher Higgins scored the first of Montreal's three first-period goals Thursday and the Canadiens held on to defeat Boston 4-2.

Higgins also had two assists in helping Montreal snap a three-game losing streak. Kyle Chipchura, Tomas Plekanec and Mathieu Dandenault also scored for the Canadiens and Carey Price made 24 saves.

Montreal has won its last seven meetings with Boston.

Higgins got the Canadiens going by slamming home a rebound of a Roman Hamrlik shot 3:03 into the game.

Boston scored twice in the second period to make it close, but Higgins assisted on a goal by Dandenault with 6:45 to play. The Bruins lost for the third time in four outings.

Prior to the game, the Bruins announced they had obtained goaltender Alex Auld from Phoenix in exchange for forward Nate DiCasmirro and a fifth round draft choice in 2009.
