NHL: Philadelphia 6, Carolina 3

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Daniel Briere registered a hat trick Wednesday, powering the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

He scored three times in the third period -- twice on the power play -- giving him 10 goals this season. It was his first three-goal game with the Flyers.

Philadelphia also got one goal apiece from Mike Knuble, Kimmo Timonen (power play) and Scott Hartnell (unassisted, empty net). Knuble had two assists.

Goaltender Martin Biron stopped 32 of 35 shots as the Flyers stopped a two-game skid and moved to 2-0 against the Hurricanes this season.

Carolina's Matt Cullen had one goal and two assists, while Eric Staal and Rod Brind'Amour scored one each. Goalie Cam Ward was beaten five times on 20 shots for the Hurricanes, who have dropped three of four.

On the power play in the penalty-filled contest, the Hurricanes were 3-for-8 and Philadelphia went 3-for-7.
