Top horse trainer suspended

LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The Kentucky racing stewards announced Friday that thoroughbred trainer Patrick Biancone had been suspended for one year.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported the suspension will begin Oct. 15 and was caused by what state officials called, "numerous violations."

One of those violations, according to the report, was the possession of three sealed vials of an extract from cobra venom that is used as a painkiller. The vials were found in Biancone's refrigerator.

Veterinarian Rodney Stewart was also suspended for five years for possession of the same substance. His suspension is under appeal.
