BANGKOK, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Dmitry Tursunov trounced Benjamin Becker 6-2, 6-1 Sunday in the final of the Thailand Open at Bangkok.
It was the third career title for the native of Russia, and his second this season. He had not won a match in his last three tournament appearances.
"The final looked pretty one sided if you look at the statistics, but I did a lot to achieve that," Tursonov said. "This week I've been pretty composed and haven't been panicky about missing my shots. I've been getting through the rough patches."
Tursonov, who admitted last week he had been offered bribes in the past to tank matches, earned $76,500.
Becker, playing in his first career ATP final, lost his only previous meeting with Tursunov, a first-round match at Indianapolis in 2006.
"It was a good week for me to make my first final ever," Becker said. "I would have liked to have won the title, but you can't have everything."
