CINCINNATI, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Joey Votto hit a three-run homer knocked in a career-high five runs Sunday, as the Cincinnati Reds beat the NL Central champion Chicago Cubs, 8-4.
Cincinnati also got two hits and two RBI from Ryan Hanigan, and two hits and an RBI from Jorge Cantu. Jason Ellison had a run and two hits as the Reds got just the third win in their last 10 games this season.
The winner was starter Homer Bailey (4-2).
Chicago's Alfonso Soriano hit his record-setting 14th homer in September, a leadoff shot in the top of the first. Soriano went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs.
Jacque Jones had two hits and one RBI, as the Cubs went 6-4 in their final 10 games.
The Cubs will face the NL West champion Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday in the NL playoffs.
Sunday's losing pitcher was closer Ryan Dempster (2-7).
