English courses for '11, '12 British Opens

LONDON, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- English courses Royal St. George's and Royal Lytham & St. Annes have been selected as sites for the British Open in 2011 and 2012.

British Open organizers Tuesday made the course announcements, returning the golf major tournament to St. George's, in Sandwich, England, eight years after it was the site of the 2003 event and Lytham for the first time since 2001.

Ben Curtis won the British Open in 2003, the last time it was played at Royal St. George's. The 2011 event would be the 14th British Open at Royal St. George's.

David Duval won the tournament by three strokes the last time it was contested at Lytham. The 2012 British Open would be the 11th at Lytham.

This year's British Open at Carnoustie, Scotland, was won by Padraig Harrington, who beat Sergio Garcia in a playoff.

Next year's British Open is set for Royal Birkdale in Lancashire, England, while the 2009 British Open is scheduled for Turnberry in Ayrshire, Scotland, and the 2010 event at the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland.
