MLB: Baltimore 11, Boston 5

BALTIMORE, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Scott Moore hit his first career grand slam home run Saturday night to help the Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox, 11-5.

Moore’s homer capped a seven-run third inning eruption, and led to Baltimore breaking a franchise-record 11-game home-field losing streak. Baltimore’s Nick Markakis hit a two-run homer and had three RBI.

Three other Orioles had one RBI each, and one run scored on Julio Lugo’s fourth inning error. Brian Roberts had two runs and three hits and Miguel Tejada had two hits and one RBI.

The winner was starter Jon Leicester (1-1).

Boston got three hits, one a two-run homer in the first, from David Ortiz. Lugo hit two RBI doubles and Jacoby Ellsbury drove in a run for the Red Sox, who had won six of seven, but still hold a 5 1/2 game lead over the New York Yankees in the AL East.

Losing pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka (14-12) yielded eight earned runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings.
