MLB: Tampa Bay 9, N.Y. Yankees 1

NEW YORK, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Rookie Andy Sonnanstine allowed an unearned run over eight innings Friday night to lead the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to a 9-1 victory over the New York Yankees.

Sonnanstine (4-9) posted the longest outing of his career. He gave up two singles, struck out five and did not walk anyone. He retired the last 14 batters he faced.

Carlos Pena had two home runs while Carl Crawford, Delmon Young and Greg Norton drove in two runs each.

Tampa Bay has won four in a row and seven out of eight, while the Yankees lost the momentum they had picked up with a series sweep of Boston.

Phil Hughes (2-3) suffered the loss, giving up seven hits and five runs in 4 1/3 innings.
