MLB: N.Y. Mets 7, Atlanta 1

ATLANTA, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- John Maine gave up an earned run and three hits Friday night, as the New York Mets ripped Atlanta, 7-1.

Maine got all the support he needed on Carlos Delgado’s three-run home in the top of the fourth. New York’s Jose Reyes hit a solo homer in the fifth, and Marlon Anderson hit a three-run double in the ninth.

Reyes, Delgado and Carlos Beltran all had two hits for the Mets, who broke a four-game losing streak to remain two games ahead of Philadelphia in the NL East.

Maine (14-8) walked three and fanned eight.

Atlanta’s run scored on Maine’s wild pitch in the sixth. Four players had one hit each for the Braves, who have lost three of five.

Losing pitcher Tim Hudson (15-7) yielded four earned runs and six hits in six innings.
