Hatalsky, Vaughan lead on Champions Tour

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Morris Hatalsky and Bruce Vaughan both shot 7-under 65 Friday to share the lead after one round of the Champion Tour's First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, Calif.

Vaughan became the second Monday qualifier in as many weeks to hold the first-round lead. Ray Stewart led through the first two rounds of the Boeing Classic last week.

Vaughan played the Del Monte Country Club course while Hatalsky turned in his score at the Pebble Beach Links.

They had a one-shot lead over Bob Gilder and a two-shot cushion over Tom Watson and Kirk Hanefeld.

Craig Stadler and Peter Jacobsen were among those at 68.

Bernhard Langer, who was eligible to play in the lucrative playoffs on the regular PGA Tour, skipped those tournaments to make his Champions Tour debut at Pebble Beach. He opened with a 69 and was tied for 12th place.
