CHICAGO, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Back-to-back homers by Matt Murton and Alfonso Soriano in the sixth put Chicago in front Thursday night and the Cubs hung on for a 5-4 win over Milwaukee.
The teams concluded their season series with the Cubs opening a 2 1/2-game lead over the Brewers in the National League Central.

The sixth-inning homers, coming with two away, gave Chicago a 5-3 lead. Ryan Dempster, despite giving up a ninth-inning run, worked out of a jam to pick up his 23rd save.
Carlos Marmol (4-1) worked two innings of relief to gain the win.
Milwaukee reliever Chris Capuano (5-12) lost his 12th straight decision, giving up two runs in four innings.
The Brewers have dropped six games out of seven.
