MLB: Philadelphia 4, N.Y. Mets 2 (10 inn.)

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning Tuesday, sending the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-2 win over the New York Mets.

Howard had three hits and Jimmy Rollins also homered for the Phillies, who have won three straight to close to four games behind the Mets, who are the frontrunners in the NL East. Philadelphia also drew within 2 1/2 games of San Diego for the lead in the wild card race.

Carlos Delgado hit a two-run homer for the Mets, whose bullpen failed to hold on to a two-run lead with just six outs remaining. New York has lost three straight.

With Guillermo Mota (1-1) starting his second inning of relief for the Mets, Shane Victorino singled ahead of Howard's homer.

Brett Myers (3-5) pitched two perfect innings as three relievers allowed only one hit in 4 1/3 innings.
