MLB: Cincinnati 4, Atlanta 2

CINCINNATI, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Bronson Arroyo held Atlanta to two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings Wednesday, helping Cincinnati beat the Braves 4-2.

Arroyo (7-13) allowed six hits and three walks while striking out five Braves. He got help from three relievers, including David Weathers, who earned his 27th save this season.

Three Reds knocked in a run and one Cincinnati run scored on a fifth inning throwing error by Atlanta’s Willie Harris. Jeff Keppinger had two of the Reds’ seven hits. Keppinger and Josh Hamilton both hit solo homers.

Atlanta’s Brian McCann and Andruw Jones hit solo homers. Chipper Jones had three hits, and Kelly Johnson two as the Braves fell 6 1/2 games behind the NL East-leading New York Mets with their second straight loss.

Losing pitcher Lance Cormier (0-4) surrendered four runs – three earned – and four hits in five innings.

Atlanta shortstop Edgar Renteria aggravated his right ankle sprain.
