MLB: Oakland 6, Kansas City 1

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Lenny DiNardo gave up an earned run and only five hits in a career-high eight innings Sunday afternoon, as the Oakland Athletics beat Kansas City, 6-1.

Oakland’s Marco Scutaro had four hits and two RBI. Four others knocked in one run, while Jeff DaVanon and Nick Swisher had two hits apiece for the Athletics, who stopped a two-game skid.

DiNardo (8-6) did not walk a batter and fanned three.

Kansas City’s lone run scored on an RBI single by Emil Brown in the top of the seventh. Joey Gathright had three hits and Mark Grudzielanek had two for the Royals, who were aiming for a three-game sweep.

Loser Kyle Davies (1-2) yielded two earned runs and six hits in five innings, while reliever John Bale gave up four runs in two innings.
