MLB: Texas 9, Tampa Bay 1

ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Marlon Byrd and Ian Kinsler had two RBI each Sunday night, as the Texas Rangers beat Tampa Bay, 9-1.

Rangers’ starter Kason Gabbard left the game with stiffness in his forearm with one out in the second inning. Willie Eyre (4-5) pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out two to get the victory.

David Murphy went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI for the Rangers who won for the third time in four games.

Jonny Gomes drove in the Devil Rays’ lone run.

Jason Hammel (1-2) took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits in four-plus innings for the Devil Rays, who have won three of their last five games.

The Rangers got off to a 2-0 lead in the third on Byrd’s two-run single, added a run in the fourth on Frank Catalanotto’s RBI triple, and made it 4-0 when Michael Young led off the fifth with a home run.
