MLB: Philadelphia 5, Atlanta 3

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Ryan Howard smacked a three-run homer in the fifth inning Sunday night to help the Philadelphia Phillies beat Atlanta, 5-3.

The blast, off Atlanta starter and loser Buddy Carlyle (7-4), gave Howard 33 home runs this season and helped the Phillies bounce back from an early 2-0 deficit.

Philadelphia also got one RBI each from Pat Burrell and Jayson Werth. Jimmy Rollins had two hits and scored three times for the Phillies, who moved back into second place in the NL East -- one-half game ahead of Atlanta -- with their second win in the three-game series.

The winner was Jamie Moyer (11-8). Brett Myers earned his ninth save.

Atlanta's Chipper Jones hit a two-run single in the first. Martin Prado had two of the team's seven hits and one RBI for the Braves, who have split their last 10 games.
