MLB: Toronto 4, Kansas City 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- A.J. Burnett yielded an earned run and just three hits Sunday night as the Toronto Blue Jays beat Kansas City, 4-1.

In his return from the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right shoulder, Burnett (6-6), making his first start since June 28, walked three batters and fanned five.

Toronto's Vernon Wells opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the top of the third. Lyle Overbay added a two-run RBI double in the fourth and Matt Stairs had a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Overbay had three hits, and three players had two for the Blue Jays, who have won three of their last four games.

Kansas City's lone run scored on a home run by Alex Gordon in the eighth. Three others also had one hit for the Royals, who have dropped three of four.

Loser Brian Bannister (8-7) gave up three earned runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
