MLB: Atlanta 12, Houston 3

ATLANTA, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Mark Teixeira hit a three-run homer in his Atlanta debut Wednesday, helping Atlanta bury Houston 12-3.

Teixeira was acquired at the trade deadline from Texas and he became the second member of the Braves in two years to hit a homer in his first game with the team. Jeff Francoeur homered in his major league debut on July 7, 2005.

Edgar Renteria also homered for Atlanta, winners of three straight after a four-game losing streak.

Teixeira's blast came in the sixth and gave the Braves an 11-3 lead. Atlanta piled on Houston for seven runs in the first inning, during which Teixeira collected an RBI with a bases-loaded walk.

Starter Buddy Carlyle (6-3) won for the fifth time in six decisions, but he left after five innings with a hyperextended right elbow. He allowed two runs on five hits.

The loss went to Wandy Rodriguez, who surrendered eight runs on six hits in four innings. The Astros have dropped four out of five.
