MLB: Boston 12, Tampa Bay 6

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 28 (UPI) -- Mike Lowell had four hits and the Boston Red Sox erupted for six runs in the top of the 12th inning Saturday night to down Tampa Bay, 12-6.

Devil Rays reliever Brian Stokes (2-7) had trouble finding the plate and walked in the go-ahead run before giving way to Jae Kuk Ryu, who promptly gave up RBI doubles to Kevin Youkilis and Manny Ramirez, as Boston won for the eighth time in its last nine games.

Kyle Snyder (2-2) was credited with the win in relief.

Tampa Bay forced extra innings by tying the game in the ninth on Johnny Gomes' second home run of the game, a two-run shot off Boston closer Jonathon Papelbon.
