MLB: Philadelphia 8, Pittsburgh 1

PHILADELPHIA, July 27 (UPI) -- Jamie Moyer hurled a seven-inning six-hitter Friday night as the Philadelphia Phillies trounced Pittsburgh, 8-1.

The contest was called after seven innings because of rain.

The 44-year-old Moyer (9-8) gave up an earned run and six hits with no walks and four strikeouts. He helped himself as a batter with an RBI single in a six-run third.

Philadelphia's Pat Burrell drove in three runs, two with his 13th home run this season in the third. Greg Dobbs hit a two-run single in the first, and Michael Bourn had two runs and four hits for the Phillies, who have won four of their last five games.

Pittsburgh scored its lone run on Ronny Paulino's single in the fifth inning. He had three hits for the Pirates, who have dropped four of five.

Loser John Van Benschoten (0-5) surrendered seven earned runs, six hits and four walks in 2 1/3 innings.
