Upton, Cano share A.L. weekly honor

NEW YORK, July 23 (UPI) -- Tampa Bay outfielder B.J. Upton and New York second baseman Robinson Cano were selected Monday co-winners of the American League player of the week award.

Upton hit .414 with two home runs and eight runs batted in for the week. He also scored eight runs. He had two three-hit games and on Friday hit a pair of home runs against the New York Yankees.

Cano hit .500 for the week, including four extra-base hits. He knocked in nine runs and scored eighth. He went 11-for-18 in the Yankees' four-game series against Upton's Devil Rays.

Other players considered for American League player of the week were: Cleveland's Ryan Garko, New York's Hideki Matsui and Alex Rodriguez, Boston's Kason Gabbard and Toronto's Roy Hallaway.
