Top seed reaches Cincy quarterfinals

CINCINNATI, July 18 (UPI) -- No. 1 seed Anna Chakvetadze rallied from an early deficit in the first set Wednesday to defeat Anda Perianu in the second round of the Western & Southern Financial Open.

Chakvetadze recorded a 6-4, 6-3 victory to lead a parade of seeded players into the quarterfinals.

Third-seeded Sania Mirza advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Varvara Lepchenko, and No. 7 Akkiko Morigami coasted past Angelique Kerber 6-2, 6-2.

In a match featuring unseeded players, Lilia Osterloh ousted Anna Tatishvili 7-5, 6-1.
