PHILADELPHIA, July 16 (UPI) -- Phil Mickelson's second-place finish in the Scottish Open allowed him to regain the No. 2 spot in the world golf men's rankings released Monday.
Mickelson bogeyed No. 18 during his round Sunday to fall into a tie with Gregory Havret and then bogeyed the same hole on the first playoff hole while Havret had a par for the tournament title.
Still, the strong play through the week allowed Mickelson to slip past and drop Jim Furyk to third in the golf rankings. Tiger Woods, who tried to defend his British Open title this week, is No. 1
Ernie Els, who finished third behind Havret and Mickelson, moved up one spot to No. 4, switching places with Adam Scott.
The fifth- through 10th-ranked golfers remained the same as last week, with Vijay Singh fifth followed by Henrik Stenson, Geoff Ogilvy, Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington, in order, completing the Top 10.
Havert's Scottish Open victory allowed him to jump 205 places to No. 115. Jonathan Byrd, who won the PGA's John Deere Classic, moved up 41 spots and is now ranked 68th.
