Raptors sign Jason Kapono

TORONTO, July 11 (UPI) -- Free-agent forward Jason Kapono Wednesday signed a multi-year contract with the Toronto Raptors.

The 6-foot-8 inch, three-year veteran is one of the NBA's best long-range shooters. Last season, he led the league in three-point field goal percentage (51.4 percent) while playing for the Miami Heat, where he scored nearly 11 points per game.

"Jason is an ideal fit four our system and for our locker room," said Bryan Colangelo, Raptors president and general manager. "We anticipate he will contribute significantly to our team in a variety of ways."

Kapono was a second-round draft pick by Cleveland in 2003 out of UCLA.

He played for the Cavaliers one season, one season with Charlotte, and two with the Heat, and has a career scoring average of 7.4 points in 240 NBA games.

The Raptors also signed free-agent forward Jamario Moon to a two-year contract and restricted free-agent forward Maceo Baston to an offer sheet.
