LONDON, June 24 (UPI) -- Britain's Andy Murray Sunday became the latest player to withdraw from this year's Wimbledon Tennis Championships.
Murray, who was the men's eighth seed, has a nagging right wrist injury.
The 20-year-old was scheduled to play Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti in the first round Monday. His spot will be filled by Kevin Kim of the United States.
"I have done everything possible to get ready for Wimbledon," Murray said. "I have played practice sets the last few days, but still cannot hit a topspin forehand properly."
Murray was hurt at the Hamburg Masters six weeks ago when he hit a forehand while facing Italy's Filippo Volandri. After playing two more points, Murray retired from the match and has not played since.
He has been advised by doctors not to play for at least another 10 days.
No British man has won Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936.
Other withdrawals because of injuries include Na Li, Vera Zvonareva, Gaston Gaudio, Paradorn Srichapan and Mario Ancic.
