MLB: Chi. Cubs 5, Chi. White Sox 1

CHICAGO, June 22 (UPI) -- Carlos Zambrano gave up an earned run and three hits Friday afternoon as the Chicago Cubs beat the Chicago White Sox, 5-1.

Zambrano got all the help he needed on solo home runs by Alfonso Soriano and Aramis Ramirez in the top of the first, with Soriano's blast leading off the contest.

After Paul Konerko stroked a solo homer in the seventh to make it 2-1, the Cubs put the game away with three runs in the ninth.

Zambrano (8-6) walked one and struck out a season-high 12 batters. Ryan Dempster retired the side in order in the ninth.

Ramirez had two hits, and Felix Pie had a run and two hits as the Cubs broke a two-game skid.

A.J. Pierzynski and Tadahito Iguchi had the only other hits for the White Sox, who suffered their third straight loss.

Loser Mark Buehrle (4-4) surrendered two earned runs and four hits in seven innings.
