Henin, Mauresmo roll into semifinals

EASTBOURNE, England, June 21 (UPI) -- Justine Henin and Amelie Mauresmo posted straight-set victories Thursday and advanced of the semifinals of the $600,000 International Women's Open in England.

Henin, the world's top-ranked women's tennis player, swept by fifth-seeded Nicole Vaidisova 6-2, 6-2 while Mauresmo, the second seed this week, beat sixth-seeded Shahar Peer 6-3, 6-4.

Henin, the defending champion in this last grass-court tune-up ahead of Wimbledon, goes against eighth-seeded Marion Bartoli in Friday's semifinals. Bartoli posted an impressive 6-1, 6-0 romp over fourth-seeded Elena Dementieva in her quarterfinal match.

Mauresmo will next go against third-seeded Nadio Petrova, who had a tough 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 6-4 victory against ninth-seeded Sybille Bammer on Thursday.
