DETROIT, June 12 (UPI) -- Justin Verlander pitched the Detroit Tigers' first no-hitter in 23 years Tuesday, striking out 12 in a 4-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Verlander (7-2) walked four batters, including Bill Hall three times. The 24-year-old right-hander posted Detroit's first no-hitter since Jack Morris accomplished that feat April 7, 1984 against the Chicago White Sox.

It was the sixth no-hitter in Tiger history and the first for the team in Detroit since Virgil Trucks shut down Washington May 15, 1952.

Verlander, chosen as the second overall pick in the 2004 draft out of Old Dominion, pitched the second no-hitter in the majors this season. He joined Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox, who no-hit Texas April 18.

Brandon Inge homered and drove in two runs for the Tigers, who won for the fifth time in six games.
