NHL: Ottawa 3, New Jersey 2

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., May 5 (UPI) -- Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and an assist Saturday night, as the Ottawa Senators beat New Jersey, 3-2, to advance to the Eastern Conference finals.

Dany Heatley had two assists for the Senators, who eliminated the Devils four games to one in the conference semifinals.

Jason Spezza added a goal and an assist and Antoine Vermette also scored.

Ray Emery stopped 27 shots to improve his record to 8-2 this post-season.

Scott Gomez scored both goals for the Devils, who failed to advance beyond the conference semifinals for the third straight season.

Martin Brodeur gave up three goals on 24 shots.

Ottawa advanced to the Eastern Conference finals for the second time in franchise history. The Senators will play the winner of the Sabres-Rangers series.

Buffalo leads 3-2, with Game 6 set for Sunday.
