Four nominated to join IOC

BEIJING, May 2 (UPI) -- Four people, including the leaders of the international basketball and equestrian federations, were nominated to join the International Olympic Committee.

The nominations of Haya bint Al-Hussein, a UAE princess who is president of the International Equestrian Federation; Patrick Baumann, from Switzerland and president of the International Basketball Federation; Colombian Olympic Committee President Andres Botero, and Indonesian Olympic Committee President Rita Subowo are to be voted on at an IOC meeting in July in Guatemala.

The IOC announced the nominations in a release Wednesday.

IOC President Jacques Rogge praised the "four highly competent individuals who would undoubtedly make an excellent contribution to the IOC." He also noted two of the candidates are women, as was the case for the slate of new IOC members last year.

The IOC, which currently has 111 members, votes on Olympic issues such as site selection and IOC executives.
