MINNEAPOLIS, April 26 (UPI) -- Minnesota's Torii Hunter was struck in the face by a pitch by Kansas City's Zack Greinke Thursday and was removed from the Twins' 11-inning, 1-0 victory.
The team listed the center-fielder as day-to-day on its Web site late Thursday afternoon. He was hit in the mouth by a Greinke fastball, and suffered a cut lip.
Hunter did not lose consciousness, but was visibly upset. He started to charge toward the mound before collapsing to the ground in pain.
"When it first hit him, I assumed it was just like any other hit batter," Greinke told the Kansas City Star. "Then I realized it hit him in the face, and I was like, 'Oh, man.' You don't want to do that. Ever. I just felt bad about it."
Hunter was treated by the team's medical staff before being taken to nearby Abbott Northwestern Hospital, where he received three stitches for a cut on the inside of his lip.
