DETROIT, April 22 (UPI) -- Placido Polanco hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning Sunday afternoon as the Detroit Tigers edged the Chicago White Sox, 6-5.
The game went to extra innings after Marcus Thames hit a dramatic, two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth.

Polanco had two hits and two RBI, Magglio Ordonez hit a two-run single, and Sean Casey also had two hits for the Tigers, who broke a three-game losing streak.
The winner was Jason Grilli (1-1).
Joe Crede hit a two-run homer, A.J. Pierzynski hit a solo homer, and Darrin Erstad had three hits and one RBI. Pablo Ozuna also drove in a run for the Tigers, who had a four-game winning streak snapped.
The losing pitcher was Nick Masset (1-1).
