NHL: Colorado 4, Phoenix 3

PHOENIX, March 30 (UPI) -- Milan Hejduk had a goal and an assist Thursday night to help the Colorado Avalanche outlast the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-3.

Colorado scored twice in each of the first two periods to take a 4-0 advantage, but did not score again.

Phoenix mounted a three-goal spurt in the third period to cut the lead to one goal with about 90 seconds left in regulation.

Brett McLean, Wojtek Wolski and Brad Richardson scored, Paul Stastny and Tyler Arnason each had two assists, and Peter Budaj stopped 20 of 23 shots for the Avalanche, who trail Minnesota by seven points in the race for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Steven Reinprecht had a goal and an assist, Kevyn Adams and Nick Boynton scored, Daniel Carcillo had two assists, and Curtis Joseph and Mikael Tellqvist combined to give up four goals on 18 shots for the Coyotes, who have dropped three in a row.
