ATLANTA, March 9 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Braves Friday signed veteran southpaw Mark Redman to a minor league contract.
Redman could make the major league roster in spring training as a replacement for Mike Hampton, who will miss at least two months with a muscle strain in his left side.
Redman was the lone All-Star Game representative for Kansas City last season. For the year, he was 11-10 with a 5.71 ERA.
"It's a great pick-up," Braves manager Bobby Cox said on the team's Web site. "We're thin. I think we got lucky that there was a guy around like that."
For his career, Redman is 64-76 with a 4.65 ERA in eight seasons with Minnesota, Detroit, Florida, Oakland, Pittsburgh, and the Royals.
In the last five seasons (2002-06), he has averaged 30 starts and 186 innings per season.
