NHL: Colorado 3, Buffalo 2

BUFFALO, N.Y., March 7 (UPI) -- A third period goal by Wojtek Wolski Wednesday night gave Colorado a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Both teams scored once in the first and second periods to set up a 2-2 tie at the second intermission.

Wolski scored his game-winner 1:41 into the final period to help the Avalanche break a three-game losing streak to the Sabres.

Milan Hejduk had a goal and an assist; Brett McLean scored once; Paul Stastny had two assists; and Peter Budaj stopped 19 of 21 shots for Colorado, which won its fifth straight game.

Stastny has recorded a point in 17 straight games, tying the NHL record for points in consecutive games for a rookie, and breaking the franchise record of 16 games set by his father, Peter, in the 1980-81 season.

Nathan Paetsch and Jason Pominville scored; and Ryan Miller gave up three goals on 29 shots for the Sabres, who had a three-game winning streak broken.
