Ravens waive all-time leading rusher

OWINGS MILLS, Md., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- The Baltimore Ravens Wednesday waived running back Jamal Lewis, but General Manager Ozzie Newsome said Lewis could return to the club.

Baltimore hopes to negotiate a deal with their all-time leading rusher to save money under the salary cap.

"We are involved in negotiations with Jamal Lewis, and there has been good dialogue," Newsome said. "Jamal has been a significant contributor to us in the last seven seasons. It's our hope to have him back with the Ravens."

Lewis, the team's No. 1 draft pick in 2000, has a career total of 7,801 rushing yards. In 2003, he carried for 2,066 yards, the second largest single-season total in NFL history.
