NHL: Boston 4, Carolina 3 (OT)

RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Zdeno Chara scored the game-winner 1:49 into overtime Saturday night as the Boston Bruins beat Carolina, 4-3.

Glen Murray scored twice and Chara had two assists for the Bruins, who snapped a five-game losing streak and won for just the fourth time in their last 16 games. Tim Thomas made 34 saves on 37 shots for Boston.

Erik Cole scored twice and Cam Ward made 29 saves on 33 shots for the Hurricanes, who lost their fourth straight game and their sixth out of seven.

The Bruins trailed, 2-0, after Cole's two first-period goals, but Boston scored just 30 seconds into the second on Murray's 25th goal of the season. Boston got the equalizer at 19:07 of the second when Boyes beat Ward on a breakaway.

Chara scored the game-winner in overtime on a pass from Marc Savard.
