Ruben Brown named Pro Bowl replacement

NEW YORK, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Chicago Bears left guard Ruben Brown Thursday was named to his ninth NFL Pro Bowl.

The 12-year veteran replaces Philadelphia's Shawn Andrews, who will miss the game after suffering a neck injury in the Eagles' Jan. 13 playoff loss to New Orleans.

"He's not sure exactly when it happened, but he had a tremendous amount of swelling there at halftime," Eagles Coach Andy Reid said when Andrews' injury occurred. "He actually was having a tough time seeing."

Andrews missed the entire second half against the Saints and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

His injury has not improved enough to allow him to compete in the Pro Bowl on Feb. 10 at Honolulu.

The 6-foot-3 inch, 300-pound Brown was a first round draft pick by Buffalo in 1995 out of Pittsburgh.

He will join eight Chicago teammates in the all-star contest.
