Philadelphia goaltender Antero Niittymaki gave up all four goals but didn't get much help defensively, as he faced 36 shots. The Islanders' Rick DiPietro made 29 saves in the win.

New York took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Randy Robitaille scored off a pass from Miroslav Satan.

The Flyers made the score 1-1 3:08 into the second period with Randy Jones knocking in a loose puck. But the Islanders went up again with 7:02 left in the second on Jason Blake's power-play goal.

Philadelphia was able to get back to 2-2 about a minute later with Simon Gagne scoring off a pass from Peter Forsberg. The assist was the 600th of Forsberg's career.
