NHL: Tampa Bay 4, N.Y. Islanders 3

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Martin St. Louis got his NHL-leading 29th goal Monday in helping the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders.

Teammate Vincent Lecavalier stayed right behind him in the goal-scoring race with a third-period goal that put Tampa Bay up 4-2 and proved to be the goal that sealed the game. Lecavalier has 28 goals on the season.

New York opened the scoring with a power-play goal by Alexi Yashin 3:38 into the game, but Tampa Bay answered with a pair of man-advantage goals. Vaclav Prospal tied the score for the Lightning at the 6:55 mark and 2 1/2 minutes later Brad Richards put Tampa Bay ahead.

St. Louis made the score 3-1 with the second period's only goal. The Islanders tightened the score with a power-play goal by Viktor Kozlov early in the third period. Lecavalier added his goal at the 7:13 mark.

The Islanders closed within 4-3 when Trent Hunter scored midway through the third period but they couldn't solve Tampa Bay goaltender Johan Holmqvist again. Holmqvist stopped 33 shots in the game.
