Chargers coach's son courted by Miami

NEW YORK, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- The Miami Dolphins were granted permission to speak with New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer about their head coaching job.

Schottenheimer is the son of Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer, and only just completed his first season as the Jets' offensive coordinator.

He was reportedly praised within league circles for his innovative offense system, New York's White Plains Journal reported. The 33-year-old offensive coordinator implemented a no-huddle system that allowed the quarterback to either make or change the plays right at the line of scrimmage.

New York Giants defensive coordinator Tim Lewis and the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator Mike Martz are also being interviewed for the job, reported the Miami Herald.

The Dolphins' coaching position opened when Nick Saban resigned to become the head football coach at the University of Alabama.
