COL BKB: Ohio State 62, Illinois 44

CHAMPAIGN, Ill., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Daequan Cook scored 13 points Saturday and No. 6 Ohio State put on an overwhelming defensive show in cruising past Illinois, 62-44.

The Buckeyes held Illinois to 24 percent shooting from the field and Greg Oden punctuated the performance with four blocks.

Ohio State won its third in a row, improved to 13-2 for the season and won its second Big Ten Conference game in as many tries. Illinois fell to 12-5 and 0-2, having lost three straight.

Jamar Butler added 12 points for Ohio State and Othello Hunter and Ron Lewis each had 10.

Warren Carter was the only Illinois player in double figures with 11. Ohio State prevented Illinois from making a field goal during the final 6:30 of the opening half.
