COL BKB: Kansas 63, Detroit 43

LAWRENCE, Kan., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Kansas raced out to a 16-3 lead in the game's first five minutes Thursday night and held off Detroit, 63-43.

KU had a 26-16 halftime lead, but the Titans responded with a 15-5 run to cut their deficit to 41-37 with under nine minutes to play.

From the point, Kansas went up, 52-43, then cruised home.

Mario Chalmers had 22 points and two assists; Brandon Rush had nine points and five rebounds; Russell Robinson had seven points and five rebounds; while Sherron Collins had seven points and five assists for the Jayhawks (11-2), whose winning streak rose to five games in a row.

Brandon Cotton had 20 points, three rebounds, and two assists; and Ryvon Covile added seven points and 10 rebounds for the Titans (3-9), who have lost five of their last six games.
