NHL: N.Y. Islanders 4, Carolina 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Nov. 23 (UPI) -- The New York Islanders used a three-goal third period Wednesday night to beat the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-2.

They had a 1-0 lead at both the first and second intermissions; courtesy of a goal by Shawn Bates at 2:53 of the first period.

In the third period outburst, Jason Blake, Alexei Yashin, and Miroslav Satan all scored goals.

Rick DiPietro had to make 13 saves on just 15 shots for the Islanders, who have won two of their last three games.

Scott Walker scored his 10th goal of the season to make the score 3-1; Trevor Letowski capped the scoring in the third period and John Grahame gave up three goals on 47 shots for the Hurricanes, who have dropped their last two games.

On the power play, Carolina was 1-for-6; and the Islanders went 0-for-5.
