NHL: Carolina 6, Pittsburgh 2

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Carolina scored three times in the third period to ensure a 6-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Raleigh, N.C., Saturday night.

Rod Brind'Amour had a goal and an assist; Justin Williams, Ray Whitney, Eric Belanger, Kevyn Adams, and Chad LaRose all scored once, with Adams scoring an empty-net goal at 17:37 of the third period; and LaRose scoring short-handed about a minute later.

Erik Cole recorded his 100th and 101st career assists; and Cam Ward gave up two goals on 26 shots for the Hurricanes, who have won five of their last seven games.

John LeClair and Mark Recchi each scored once; and Jocelyn Thibault was beaten five times on 29 shots for the Penguins, whose losing streak is five games in a row.

On the power play, Carolina went 2-for-14 and the Penguins were 0-for-7.
